Instead of regards to the International Day of Nurses...  “Good as a way of life“.

This text is not a criticism of the current state of nursing. The aim is to make some important ideas about humanity, dignity and professional imagination of the author. Where to start? Perhaps with myself. The result of self-assessment is the finding that the times when we travelled to work full of positive expectations are long gone. The times, when nurses were motivated to meet the professional roles with simple methods, are over. Confidence, dignified approach, respect, recognition, willingness and the atmosphere of peace are losing from the work and nursing care. Service and care is excessive with tension, time stress, employer's economic priorities, lack of working tools and with a variety of other factors. The image of the status of a nurse as a qualified person, within the multidisciplinary team, remains only in the sphere of ideas. Similarly, the topic of social status of nurses, professional image and autonomy of occupation is a long-discussed topic not only in the lobbies, but as well in the academic area. However, there is a question, where to look for answers and methods of solution of the above mentioned status. We believe that we need to look inside, inside ourselves. Let us realize our dignity, our own values, accept ourselves. We can strengthen ourselves with the awareness that we are educated people, professional proud nurses with acceptable ways of verbal and nonverbal speech. An individual who is the implementer of the change and is motivated with the knowledge of the core of nursing as a science. Let us act not only according to the patient. Let us act in the role of the nursing care manager. Let us manage with staying on top of things and with an interest in protecting the purity of specialization of the nursing occupation and with an interest in transforming the vision of the nursing theory into a reality in practice. Do not want to be compliant only in order not to lose social security and job. Manage with concentration and with the awareness that the performance of the function of the general manager is always only a temporary function. Only that individual has a power who has integrity and to have integrity means to do good.

To the International Day of Nurses I would like to wish you perseverance in solving problems of the social status of this profession. I wish you Good as a way of life. The desire to do well is the biggest driver of what we have, if we realize that helping others is a privilege.
