Abstract

HLINKOVÁ, E. - NEMCOVÁ, J. The Assessment of Education of Vascular - Surgery Patients with Diabetes Mellitus. In Ošetrovateľstvo: teória, výskum, vzdelávanie, 2011, vol. 1, no. 1, pp. 20-27.

Introduction: Inadequate assessment of the educational process may be one of cause of ineffective education.

The aim of the intervention (uncontrolled) study was to analyze the practical reasoning scheme of social interpretation method as a tool of systematic reasoning and educational process effectivity in case of vascular surgery patients, to identify the differences in care about a diabetic’s legs and feet among patients with Diabetic Foot Syndrome (DFS) and Ischemic Disease of Lower Extremities (IDLE).

Methodology: To collect empirical, data we applied diagnosis contextual analysis in medical documentation, a structured dialogue, a structured observation, own construction questionnaire.

Results and discussion: We did not observe any differences in epistemological, axiological and technical conditions of rational activity of a surgical patient (a diabetic) before education that would suggest connection with a type of chronic complications of diabetes (DFS versus IDLE). Statistically significant relation was confirmed between surgical intervention and presence of negative emotions (p = 0.002; V = 0.373).

Conclusion: Dimensions of performed systematic judgment (practical reasoning scheme) in the educational process were proved as important factors that influence learning, behaviour and activity change in case of vascular surgery patients.

Keywords: assessment in educational process, vascular surgery patient, Diabetic Foot Syndrome (DFS), Ischemic Disease of Lower Extremities (IDLE), social interpretation method
