Family Eating Habits by View of Adolescent

Abstract

MIERTOVÁ, M.  Family Eating Habits  by View of Adolescent. In Ošetrovateľstvo: teória, výskum, vzdelávanie, 2011, vol. 1, no. 1, pp. 28–33.

Objective: The purpose of the present study was to identify chosen aspects of family meal patterns. It is one of socioenviromental factors associatewd with nutrition quality of adolescent. Family meal patterns have effect the eating habits in adolescence and in next life period. Quality of family meal patterns affects the adodolescent s physical and mental health.

Method: For empiric data collection we used questionnaire Project EAT.

Sample: Empirical research was realized in a sample of 387 adolescents, students of  the first and fourth study years from the secondary schools.
Results are different for age and gender. 9.1 % adolescents, more male and respondents of first study year had eaten (lunch/dinner) together with family every day during last seven days. 19.9 % wrote that never had eaten meal together with family, more respondents of fourth study year, intersexual differences are not considerable. Women agree with proposition that eating together brings family members in an enjoyable way. Men eat and watch television at the same time.

Conclusion: Nursing nutrition assessment (includes the assessment of family meal patterns) can help to identify risk factors of eating disorders and obesity and can help to resolve them.
