Comparison of Validation of Nursing Diagnoses Acute Pain in Czech and Slovak Republic

Abstract

Aim: Nursing diagnosis Acute pain is one of the most problems that nurses in practice are considered, addressed and evaluated. Aim of this paper is the comparison of the results of the validation of nursing diagnosis of acute pain in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Method and sample: On the validation of model we have used Fehring diagnostic content validity (Diagnostic Content Validity Model). We considered an expert nurse who received at least 4 points according to modified Fehring criteria. Research sample consisted of a two group of nurses - expert: 79 Czech and 82 Slovak nurses.

Results: The differences between evaluation of the defining characteristics of Czech and Slovak experts was investigated using non-parametric Vilcoxon test of significance level 5%. Slovak experts consider the main defining characteristics of the four: positioning to avoid pain (0.79), observed evidence of pain (0.77), verbal report of pain (0.76) and protective gestures (0.75). Czech experts to be the main defining characteristics identified eight characteristics: positioning to avoid pain (0.88), observed evidence of pain (0.82), verbal report of pain (0.79), protective gestures (0.78), guarding behavior (0.77), change in heart rate (0.77), expressive behavior (0.75) and sleep disturbance (0.75).

Conclusions: The significant differences between evaluation of the Slovak experts and Czech experts have been found in the evaluation of four the defining characteristics: positioning to avoid pain, observed evidence of pain, guarding behavior and the patient indirectly indicates report of pain.
